The Chemical Biological and Radiological Committee of the Armed Forces Chemical Association will visit Fort Detrick to review biological problems and identify areas where the group can help. A cocktail party and dinner accompany the visit with Dr. Craig M Crenshaw as the guest speaker on Research Efforts in the Army Materiel Command.
The University of Maryland board of regents will hold a special meeting on October 14 in Baltimore. The session is seen as signaling a decision on the location of a new university branch, with options including Baltimore County Western Maryland and the eastern shore as authorized by the 1963 Legislature.
The county Methodist churches announce their annual Christian Education School at Calvary Methodist Church starting October 14. Dr. Douglas R. Chandler of Wesley Theological Seminary will teach The Meaning of Methodism with sessions Mondays 8 to 10 through November 18. Conference credit available on completion.
A Cambridge business and citizens group says no meeting with white and Negro leaders was scheduled for Monday night. William L. Wise of the Dorchester group is in Wilmington for a Tri-State Elks meeting. The NAACP chair Rev. T M Murray had announced the gathering, while Wise denies any integration agreement with restaurant owners and says the association has no role in such talks.
Honduran armed forces chief Col. Osvaldo Lopez Arellano proclaimed himself provisional president after a bloody coup. Martial law remains, a curfew stays in place, and the United States has suspended economic and military aid as resistance wanes and officials report 21 deaths.
The United States raised a warning flag for Latin American military leaders contemplating power grabs. It cited the Dominican Republic and Honduras where governments were toppled in quick succession. Washington suspended aid and diplomatic relations and ordered withdrawal of U.S. economic and military missions from both countries.

The Maryland state convention of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union will convene here next Wednesday and Thursday, the 88th session hosted by Frederick County. At Calvary Methodist Church the program includes officer elections, reports, and a principal address by Rev Dr William A Keese on Alcohol and Anybody, followed by a banquet.
The Frederick Council of United Church Women sponsors a Laubach Literacy Workshop. The first session is Monday with registration at 7 p.m. in the seventh grade room of Calvary Methodist Church. Instructor is Mrs. Jessie Cooper of Takoma Park, president of the Washington Literacy Council. Additional sessions October 14 and 21. Mrs. Earl Howard is United Church Women president.
Hurricane Flora batters Cuba with 115 mph winds and threatens Florida and the Bahamas. By 8 a.m. EST the center lay southeast of Camaguey and forecasters warned residents to prepare, fearing higher death tolls as communications return.
Dodgers starter Don Drysdale 6-foot-6 faces New York’s Bouten in Game 3 at Dodger Stadium. A 55,000 crowd backs Los Angeles as the Dodgers seek a 3-0 series lead after winning Games 1 and 2 in New York. Drysdale, 25, 19-17, believes a cold won’t hurt him. rain chances hover around 40 percent. Odds list Dodgers as 3-1 favorites.
A five week arc welding course for beginners will start Thursday at 7pm in the Frederick High School Vocational Agriculture Farm Shop. Harry T Miller will teach the class with a 15 student limit and a materials fee. Bring work clothes and call to join the class roll.
A major street lighting repair program in the western city section aims to replace about 10 000 feet of underground cable. Work should finish before winter, with Upper College Terrace from Rosemont to South College Parkway dark during repairs and 3 000 feet of cable expected in place next week. After that section is repaired crews will tackle Carroll Parkway and remaining areas.
Mrs Norman Ramsburg near Lewistown reports picked a handful of berries from her garden this week. She notes the plants normally bear in spring and wonders if these are an early crop for next year or a late-season fruit for this year.
Washington reports say CIA chief in South Vietnam John H. Richardson is being recalled to Washington for consultations. Reliable sources indicate Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge may replace him as head of the CIA mission in Saigon amid a broader personnel shakeup. Richardson helped steer U S efforts to aid President Ngo Dinh Diem against Communist guerrillas. State Department sources assess him favorably.
In Saigon a Buddhist monk in his early 20s burned himself to death in the central market in a protest against perceived persecution by the Diem government. The act drew hundreds of onlookers and prompted rapid police, riot police, and military response including tanks and barbed wire. Newsmen were assaulted as they documented the event. the monk was identified as Thich Quang Huong.
New York AP reports the Bronx Zoo to replace its farm with a 22 acre World Wildlife Survival Center near the Bronx River. Fairfield Osborn of the New York Zoological Society says the center will save giraffes gorillas and other endangered species and may re introduce stock where extinct. The project aligns with the World Wildlife Fund backed by Prince Philip and Prince Bernhard.
A 21 year old Frederick man Maurice E DeLashmutt of North Market street was charged with reckless driving after his car left the road and struck the porch and steps of Arthur Flanigan’s home at 450 West South Street. Damages were $50 to the vehicle and $665 to the house. Officer Reed T Thompson investigated.
