Extended deadlines boost options for veterans survivors
The Maryland Veterans Commission announced a six month extension to July 1 1957 for widows and children of veterans who died from service connected disabilities before January 1 1957 to choose between the old and new benefits acts. If chosen, retroactive payments apply from January 1 1957 with the right to switch before the new deadline. The new act changes base pay calculations and removes gratuity insurance, offering 12 percent of base pay plus death benefits while leaving National Life Insurance intact.
