County faces funding gaps for family planning program

Deputy State Health Officer Dr. Charles G. Spicknall said local family planning funding lags as federal and state grants remain static at about 90000 dollars annually. Patient numbers rose from 1143 in 1973 to 1262 in 1974, with inflation straining the budget and prompting calls for a stronger population control effort. He criticized federal support and urged housing and public health improvements, noting housing agency ideas meet local bureaucratic resistance.

Montgomery County coat of arms flawed, seal to be corrected

The Montgomery County seal and flag crest bear a wrong motto and misidentify Richard Montgomery. The DAR designed the 1936 seal after researching family history, but records show the motto Patriae Infelici Fidelis belongs to another Montgomery lineage. A corrected version from the College of Heraldry in London is expected within a month for county use.
