Authorities Treat Strikers the Same as Rebels

A U S Consul Muller at Niuchwang reports July 30 that Russian oil workers halted production seeking higher wages. The port’s civil administrator issued edicts arresting strike leaders and warning that any worker who did not return next day would be expelled. One decree states labor leaders who stop work should receive the same punishment as rebels.

Massachusetts Democrats Harmonious At State Convention

Massachusetts Democrats closed their convention with near unanimous acclamation for the state ticket. Josiah Quincy led as governor candidate against Gamaliel Bradford, receiving 1,256 votes to Bradford's 174, marking a six year lull in intraparty contest. Also noted, telegraph and telephone linemen in Chicago threaten a sympathetic strike if demands are not met, impacting Western Union and local companies.
