Hanna proposes unique Montgomery County housing initiative
Montgomery County Councilman William E. Hanna Jr. proposes a seven year Productivity Housing program to build 25,000 housing units across seven planning areas with county land and potential land acquisitions, target prices from 50 000 to 150 000 dollars, monthly rents 400 to 900, and eligibility for households earning 20 000 to 51 000. The plan includes a citizens working group in each area, a technical committee, and a funding split for the housing incentive fund and homeless programs. A backup linkage would require developers to include units in other projects if land is scarce. Former planning board chair Norman Christeller backs an overlay zoning approach and Montgomery Housing Partnership inc reports first dwelling unit in Potomac with early fundraising.
