Community Living annual dinner celebrates residents and volunteers
The sixth annual dinner at the Holiday Inn featured troubadour John DuRant and residents, volunteers, and staff of Community Living Inc. Highlighted were new funding for a Frederick County children’s unit, staff CPR and First Aid training, and moves to a new 335 West Patrick Street location. Margaret Showe entertained with harmonica renditions while William C. Lee praised progress and certificates given to residents and volunteers.

Mount Airy planners approved two additions to Mount Airy Elementary School a music room and a combined stage and physical education area subject to planning staff conditions. City officials also advanced a two story office building project in Ridgeville Business Center and approved lot subdivisions while denying a basement apartment conversion. A zoning text amendment for commercial recreation in the industrial district was tabled for council action.

Brighton Dam to Get First City Hydroelectric Plant
WSSC approves lease for Alternative Energy Associates to install a 400 kilowatt hydroelectric plant at Brighton Dam and Triadelphia Reservoir on the Patuxent River. Construction began in September with completion expected in November. power sold to Baltimore Gas and Electric will yield revenue shares to WSSC based on river flow and usage. Residents nearby should notice no changes when in operation.
