Apple Butter Plant Fire Devours Warehouse in Syhesville
A major blaze at the Apple Butter Plant in Syhesville destroyed the A H Kenelan and Son warehouse with 125 feet of refrigeration damaged and cans of apple butters in paper cases mostly salvageable. Fire departments from six areas fought the four hour, six alarm blaze, with losses estimated between 50 and 200 thousand dollars in canned goods and property. Owner Audrey Renehan described a flash fire that engulfed the warehouse despite partial clearance, vowing to resume canning operations as the roof repair begins.
