Utica Mills Named From New York Town in Frederick County

Utica Mills, a historic Maryland village eight miles from Frederick, traces its name to Utica New York. Founded by the Todd family, with William Todd arriving in 1820 to operate a flour mill, the community grew around the mill and local churches. The town, once centered on a stage line to Emmitsburg, features a Reformed and Lutheran church, a 240-member Sunday school, and plans for a community hall and better roads.
