Freight and news notes from the 1898 Daily News issue
The Daily News describes subscription rates and delivery details, with notices about postal services and price structures. It reports on World War I era topics including censorship, greetings for postmaster changes, and reflections on Thomas F. Bayard and Irish revolutionary memory with quotes from officials and critics. The piece cites eulogies, official notices, and public tributes, plus a satirical line about American pork and US politics.
Minutes of merriness and distant war talk in casual chat
In a light dialogue mix, spouses discuss health news and a cousin’s bore while stray lines ponder peace after a cruel war. References drift to the Russian Cour, the dove of peace, and a rider from history. A joke about an Adirondack guide and a minister’s light remark closes the fragment.
Democrats Billet on Ticket Bearings and Free Silver Stance
Contemporary comment notes the trouble within the sixth district as Democrats struggle to secure a free silver candidate willing to accept nomination on a single platform. The piece hints at division over potential cross-ticket alignments and loyalty to factional lines.
