The will of John W. Garrett filed in Baltimore County Orphans Court August 8 1884 at Deer Park provides equal division of real and personal estate among sons Robert and Thomas Harrison Garrett and daughter Mary Elizabeth Garrett. It sets aside 100000 to produce 6000 yearly for the Baltimore Association for the Improvement of the Condition of the Poor and 50000 annually for benevolence or education. Three children acting as trustees receive 30000 shares of Baltimore and Ohio stock for twenty years, then to be divided. Trustees to cooperate with Baltimore city and Johns Hopkins University in railroad policy. The estate is valued at about 20 million.

Fatal Gunning Accident in Wicomico County
In Salisburg Mo October 2 a hunting mishap in Wicomico county left 17 year old William Jackson dead. Jackson and his brother in law T Bennett were returning home after a squirrel hunt when Jackson’s gun discharged after a barrel strike dislodging Bennetts rifle. The shot struck Jackson in the leg severing it at the knee. Dr. Dennis amputated but Jackson died from the wound. Both men resided at Riverton.
