Gas prices rise with new federal tax impact at Frederick stations

At 12:45 p.m. Friday Donald Smith cut prices at Golden Mile Exxon on U.S. 46 West to 1.16 for regular, 1.27 for mid grade, 1.33 for premium after reports of a 4.3 cent per gallon federal tax. Local station owners on U.S. 40 West had raised prices by 5 cents briefly, then trimmed to a penny drop as competition influenced moves. Residents largely accepted the change, some calling it a fair tax.

Frederick city voter registration deadline set for Monday

Frederick residents must register by 4 30 p m Monday to vote in the next month's mayoral and aldermanic election. Voters must prove city residency and be at least 18 by Election Day November 2. The Frederick Board of Elections Supervisors office is in Winchester Hall basement on East Church Street. The deadline to change party affiliation also falls on Monday for city residents. County residents may register or change affiliation anytime but cannot vote in the city election.
