Maryland State Police arrested 65 year old Robert D. Biggs of Madison Street Monday night after an investigation led by Sgt. Robert Fagan. He faces second and third degree sex offenses, child abuse and assault and battery.
Fire calls reported over the past day ending 10 p.m. include outside gas leak at 54 p.m. near 622 Winterspice Drive in Hyattstown Urbana. vehicle fire at 12:55 p.m. near Kinstry's Mill. house fire at 7:20 p.m. at 4909 Ijamsville Road Libertytown. ambulance emergencies total 21 with 0 routines.
Today in Western Maryland expect mostly sunny skies then late clouding with possible heavy rain tonight. Highs reach the lower 80s and lows in the lower 60s with northeast winds. Thu brings morning clouds and sun with a 40 percent rain chance and mid 70s highs. Teresa Joyce Landrum 41 of Kensington was killed early Tuesday when her 1987 Dodge Arles was hit by a police cruiser at the Md 28 and Muddy Branch Road intersection. Officer James P. Leasure, who was traveling west on Md 23, survived with belt and airbag protection. The crash occurred after Landrum entered the intersection against a signal and failed to yield. Landrum died at Shady Grove Hospital at 2:27 a.m. Leasure, a 16-year veteran, was treated and released. Investigation continues.
The state plans to cut at least 1,798 state employees and reduce local government aid by up to 115 million. Agencies face curbs from health to natural resources, with major cuts in health and welfare, agriculture spraying, and erosion control. Officials urge tax discussions in a special session, while warning of further reductions next year.
Frederick County Commissioners urge the school board to craft proposals to cut the school system budget by 1.7 million.
