County to propose cuts in school budget amid shortfall

Frederick County Commissioners urge the school board to craft proposals to cut the school system budget by 1.7 million. They note the schools absorb 56 percent of the county shortfall and discuss potential sources including the 6.35 percent raise in the Frederick County Teacher's Association contract. The district faces 1,000 new students this year, adding about 1.6 million in costs at roughly 4,000 per student, while last year’s budget cut relied on fuel savings from a mild winter.
