Army malaria trials test a new drug WR 180 409
Army researchers at USAMRIID plan to infect volunteers with falciparum malaria to find the minimum effective dose of WR 180 409. Deeper safety steps include staged dosage, back up drug mefloquine, and close follow up for five days parasite-free status. Civilians have participated before, but Frederick residents will ease follow up. Volunteers may drop out anytime and can sue the Army if harmed.
