Farm Bill Analysis Highlights Dried Milk Policy Shifts
Washington Z1 Oct 1 A section of the large farm bill signed by President Eisenhower aims to curb dried milk surpluses and reduce government purchases. Parity pricing, school and military milk use, and a new easier product may boost consumption. Secretary Ben son trimmed parity, but boosts were dropped in final bill. Wheat price support levels set for 1955 crop
The ASC chief says allotments and marketing quotas won't apply in several states for the 1955 crop. The support rate of 2.06 dollars will not drop and may rise if July 1, 1955 parity exceeds current parity. 1954 crop wheat average support is 2.24 dollars. A 400 million bushel set aside reduces carryover and yields an estimated 135 percent of normal supply for 1955 56, implying a 75 percent parity need unless the 1954 Agricultural Act guarantees a 22 percent floor.
