London Oct 1 AP Sir Thomas Lipton British sportsman is gravely ill from a severe chill that has weakened his condition. He is under care of doctors and not expected to travel to New York on Saturday as planned. Lipton, 50, has been ill for about ten days and cannot shake the ailment.

Baltimore October first AP Maryland State highway patrol expanded by 25 when 25 new members were inducted by Motor Vehicle Commissioner BE Austin Baughmen. The 25 joined the existing 50 to form a 75 member force with active duty to begin Saturday.
