Deer Season Opens Today in Frederick County

The Maryland 1968 rifle season began at sunrise with forecasts of a low kill. By 10 a.m. Frederick County check stations logged 23 deer, far below last year’s morning total of 30, with Ben's Esso reporting 19, Delphey's Sport Store one, and the Lewistown Game Department office three. The heaviest deer was a 123 pound eight point buck taken by Ronnie Hahn of Thurmont, while the first registered deer came from Lee Weddle of Thurmont at about 7:45 a.m. The season runs from sunrise today to sunset Saturday, as officials expect a lighter harvest despite broad hunter turnout.
