Weather a factor in fatal accident
A Pennsylvania man, Dennis Keith Helman, 34, of Waynesboro, died when his eastbound car veered off West Main Street in Emmitsburg and struck three houses around 2 am. Passenger Victor Allen Pryor, 36, of Waynesboro, was seriously injured and hospitalized. Snowy, slippery conditions contributed to the crash, with Helman driving at high speed. Deputies noted the impact damaged a porch rail and shutters but spared extensive home damage. Pryor remained in intensive care at York Hospital Wednesday. Snow fell across the county, 2 to 4 inches, though most roads were plowed by midmorning.
