Traction Engine Pleases Maryland Officials in Mountain Test
Assistant Chairman Zouck of the Heads Commission visited Hancock Maryland to review a banded wheel traction engine sent from Cumberland to Frederick to prove suitability for threshing wheat. The engine traveled about 40 miles over steep Maryland grades with no trouble, even on a seven mile soft stretch near Hancock. It is expected to reach Hagerstown and Frederick soon and then proceed to other towns as weather allows. Meanwhile a Farm Products Post test moved 1000 parcel post food packages from farms in Maryland and Virginia to Washington for Thanksgiving, marking the heaviest such shipment in the history of the Washington Post Office. A Montreal report claimed the British dreadnought Audacious raised after sinking near Ireland.
