Mrs Caroline Jeannette reports diamonds valued at unknown amount missing from the Strathmore Hotel. The gems belonged to guest Mrs V Benedict, linked by family to Frederick R Coudert and to E C Benedict, a friend of President Cleveland.

In Allentown Pa a rival in love allegedly stabbed Burkhart Marks with a red hot fork at a Lehigh Portland Cement shop. Marks bleeds slowly in hospital as Scheiner, the other worker, heated the iron fork and thrust it into Marks thigh.
