Public hearing ends on Baker Park flood ponds

The third and final Frederick City hearing on two large ponds at Baker Park, part of a $57 million Carroll Creek flood control project, drew 65 residents who urged better design while others defended the plan. Waste disposal study outlines options on landfill incinerators

Frederick County and surroundings may see a regional landfill and incineration facilities as options in the Four County Solid Waste Disposal Study funded by Frederick Carroll Howard and Washington counties. The $280,000 report, with sections finished between 1989 and 1990, covers recycling, composting, current facilities, markets, revenues, regulations and environmental impacts. Authorities expect to discuss it next month with a December release, and identify potential sites including a regional landfill and RDF processing near I-70 in eastern Frederick County and an MRF landfill and yard waste composting south of the city.

Deer hunter's bullet shatters Buckeystown home window

A juvenile hunter fired at a crossing buck near Buckeystown hitting a front window of a farm house. Marguerite Matovich narrowly escaped injury as the bullet landed on the floor. Cpl.
