The Battle Hymn Of The Republic origin story
Julia Ward Howe wrote The Battle Hymn of the Republic after a committee failed to find a suitable national hymn in 1861. Mrs. Howe, a prodigy, penned the words to Lincoln era tunes, inspired by Washington visits and army songs. She died in 1910, leaving a memory of Abraham Lincoln urging to sing again. The poem ends with the marching truth of God and liberty.
