Three Frederick County residents pleaded guilty in five Circuit Court cases before Judge Samuel Barrick. Laird hints new raids to free U S prisoners

The mercury plunged to 17 degrees last night with forecasts of deeper cold. Unofficial reports show 5 degrees at Braddock Heights and 9 at Foxville while Oakland posted 5 above zero and Cumberland 12 above. Sears Roebuck downtown reports 150 to 200 applications for 3 or 4 positions. Routzahn's about 100 applications for six posts. Arlan's has 15 hires from about 100 applicants. Post office received many applications for 10 clerk roles but will use overtime instead of more temporary help.

17 Killed In Saigon Air Crash
A US light plane and a South Vietnamese helicopter collided in the Mekong Delta near Binh Thuy air base south of Saigon. Four Americans and thirteen Vietnamese died with no survivors. The Army Beaver had just taken off. an investigation is underway.

Living Costs Jump Sharply in October report
Washington government data show October living costs up six tenths of a percent, largest in six months, undermining hopes inflation cools.
