Logging dispute tests Youghiogheny river protection plans
Maryland debated logging along the Youghiogheny River as environmentalists and recreationists warn against harming the state’s sole protected wild and scenic river. State officials will hold a public hearing on changes to the river management plan, including a proposed rule to allow commercial guiding while dropping a ban on logging within 100 feet. Local landowners defend selective logging as non destructive. DN R and river users clash over balance between preservation and timber harvests.
