New Hearing Planned On U.S. 15 Dualization
State Highway Administration officials told the County Commissioners and State Scramer Edward Thomas that the 6 million U S 15 dualization between Lewistown and Thurmont won’t finish before the 1976 fiscal year. The 9 6510 million segment Thurmont Emmitsburg isn’t due for 1977, with the Emmitsburg to Pennsylvania line area likely not done by 1976. An environmental impact study on air quality will be required by the EPA, with a 6 to 12 month processing time anticipated. A route for the Smile stretch remains undecided, and a new public hearing will be scheduled next year, potentially affecting Caloctin Furnace. The officials warned of possible litigation if routes aren’t studied, while environmental standards have tightened following a Tennessee court ruling.
