Lehigh Portland Cement plans stock split and debt rise
The Lehigh Portland Cement Company board approved a two-for-one stock split, authorized $25 million of long-term debt, and proposed increasing authorized shares to 6.7 million while reducing par value from $25 to $15. Stockholders will vote April 18 and earnings may support a $1 annual dividend in 1956. The move aims to broaden ownership and lower tax impacts.

Fathers May Be Deferred
Washington officials say most registered fathers may soon receive deferments as draft regulations are finalized. The change, part of a broader south movement, aims to call up eligible registrants in any order. The plan includes delinquents, volunteers, nonvolunteers ages 18 to 36, men with children, and older men, reshaping the manpower pool and delaying service for many fathers.

Fathers Should Be Given More Consideration in Induction Rules
Senator Bricker and others press Selective Service to reshuffle draft priorities. Bucher argues current restudy doesn’t go far enough, proposing childless men under 26 be drafted first, then fathers, then older men. He warns a 25 year old father with three children could be drafted while a childless man over 26 is deferred.
