A head-on crash on Md 194 near Daysville Road killed Rev. Stanley K. Armentrout 48 and Melissa S. Armentrout 16, both of New Midway, and Timothy Testerman 16 of Mt. Airy Rt 1. Timothy A. Harmon 16 of New Market was injured. The crash involved a 1957 Chevrolet and a 1969 VW near the west shoulder. The driver of the Harmon vehicle was not yet determined.
A Justice Department official says the federal inquiry into Governor Marvin Mandel and two associates is essentially finished. U S attorney Finney and AUSA Skolnik briefed Richard Thornburgh on progress as a sealed grand jury in Baltimore prepares potential indictments involving Mandel and four others.
In 1853 Watertown Wisconsin faced massive railroad debts and chose to disband elected government for ten years. The mayor and aldermen hid from bondholders while three sets of resignations and service papers enabled ongoing city operations until the next vote. Frederick County musicians are invited to audition for the Candlelight Concert Society chamber orchestra. The group will perform four programs starting in January. Auditions are set for December 9 at 7:30 PM in the concert hall.
