Food Pig Out the American Way
Baltimore AP reports Americans pig out at Thanksgiving with food as identity and holiday ritual. Anthropologist Sidney Mintz notes eating as a powerful drive tied to history and belonging, while others describe gender roles and modern strains of preparing a traditional feast. The article also covers the Bags of Plenty drive, noting progress toward a goal of 150000 pounds and 150000 pounds collected toward 650000 expected by late November.

Battle over tax plan as Schaefer backs reforms
ANNAPOLIS AP The governor praises a Linowes Commission report calling for major tax increases and restructuring. Proposals include higher income and sales taxes, expanding the sales tax to services, cutting local property taxes, and new two dozen service taxes, with $800 million in new state revenue by 1992 and a $150 million property tax cut for localities. The plan, aimed at reducing disparities between rich and poor jurisdictions, faces strong legislative and business opposition as leaders weigh fiscal changes amid a recession.
