Burglar acquitted of sexual assault in Frederick case
Frederick man James Ellis Hackey Jr., 19, was acquitted of sexually assaulting a seven year old during a July burglary at a Frederick home. The judge criticized charging decisions while noting Hackey matched neither the victim’s statements nor upstairs evidence. Sentencing on burglary was deferred to January 5. Hackey remains jailed facing up to 20 years.

Estranged husband accused in Silver Spring homicide
A 33-year-old Silver Spring woman, Frances O. Thomas, was shot once in the side and died at Washington Hospital Center after her estranged husband Charles I. Thomas, 38, allegedly kicked in her apartment door at 8806 Plymouth Street. He fled but was arrested at 218 Dalewood Drive, Wheaton, and is to be held without bond. The couple had been separated about four months. The victim’s children, ages 12, 14, and 15, were present but were sheltered by the sister from Columbia, Md.
