Road-Topping Spreader Lost In Fire In Maryland
A tar-spreader vehicle owned by Norman W. Stiler of Frederick burned near the Samuel Tyler residence in Yellow Spring, causing about 8900 dollars in loss after its 1000 gallon tank of surfactant melted away. Fire units from Independent Hose, Camp Detrick, and other companies battled the blaze for an hour, drawing auxiliary water from the Tyler well and extinguishing the inferno. Separately, a fire at Frederick Iron and Steel Co and an electrical blaze caused an additional 500 dollars in damage.

Fear German Recovery Is Too Rapid
French fears that Britain and the United States push German recovery too fast threaten the French government more than the Communist strike. The National Assembly foreign affairs committee protested Britain and America returning Ruhr coal lanes and steel mills to German trustees. It urged international or national technical and commercial control over the Ruhr with resistance to unilateral handling. General De Gaulle warned the decision could be gravest of the 20th century while factions unite on Germany policy.
