Five Teens Drown in Washington Swamp After Car Plunges
In Longview Washington five teenagers drowned Monday night when a car missed a turn and plunged into a slough. Francis Hughes 16 told officers he escaped from the overturned vehicle which landed in about 20 feet of water after going off a 23 foot embankment. He climbed the bank and flagged a passing truck. Skindivers later found the vehicle and rescuers pulled it to the surface. Two bodies were recovered inside and three others were recovered in subsequent dragging operations.
