Maryland plans toll Northeastern Expressway route
A Budget and Finance Committee hearing examined a bill by the State Roads Commission to build a toll Northeastern Expressway from Baltimore City to the Pennsylvania line. The dual highway would run south of US 1, parallel to US 40, with potential Delaware line connection. About 20 million dollars exists in the 12 year roads program, and toll financed bonds could free funds for other projects or reduce bends. Passenger cars would pay 1.38 dollars per mile with higher truck rates and special reduced rates planned.
