Gene therapy aims to repair heart attack damage
Researchers at a Dallas meeting outline gene therapy strategies to convert scar tissue into muscle after heart attacks. One approach uses the MyoD gene to induce muscle cells, though the new cells may be skeletal and not fully functional heart muscle. Other methods target preventing muscle cell division to improve angioplasty outcomes and may reach humans sooner.
