Upland small game season opened with very light hunting pressure in Frederick County. Weather was favorable with 40s to 50s, sunny Sunday, and a forecast rising to the 60s. Rabbit pheasant and quail hunting allowed. deer open to bow hunting and male deer allowed with firearm season later.
Four properties at 326 328 and 330 North Market and 10 East Fourth Street changed hands for 56500 dollars, to Paul Smith and his wife from Hesbia C Foster and Loretta Thomas Foster of Urbana, with revenue stamps on the deed. The four sites housed Home Appliance Store, Mr Smith’s shop, and the Foster apartments above his store. Smith plans to rent 10 East Fourth Street, formerly Key Radio and TV shop.
A New York man, Samuel B. Kirker of Richville, was killed and his nephew injured when a southbound 1958 Chevrolet station wagon struck a utility pole on U S 15 near Buckeystown. The driver, Charles W. McCracken of Gouverneur, NY, was not seriously injured. Police and the Frederick County medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
A Friday Hypertension Symposium at the Francis Scott Key Hotel highlighted educating the next generation about smoking harms. Dr Robert J Wilder, Baltimore City Hospitals and Johns Hopkins, urged parental and community involvement to curb youth smoking citing heart attack risk and lung cancer links with tobacco use.
Mrs Rozelle Miller supervisor of Special Education with the State Department of Education will address the Frederick County Association for Mentally Retarded Children Monday at 730 p m at the Jeanne Bussard Sheltered Workshop. The talk will cover the Presidents Panel on Mental Retardation recommendations and implications.

The Wilmington Delaware event December 6 7 and 8 with theme Wake Up To Government will include twenty five Frederick County students and several advisors from Alpha Beta Gamma Cappa Linganore and Sigma Nu Hi Y clubs.
Frederick County faces a potential deficit next June if federal education aid for federally impacted areas is not approved. The Board of Education counted on 200000 to balance the six month budget, with 225000 deferred state income added to make up shortfalls. The county cut the education budget by over 600000, relying on anticipated federal and state funds to cover the gaps.
Frederick Junction state police arrested Allen Wayne Brown 25 of New Market Raymond B Poole 22 of Monrovia and Barbara Ann Poole 18 of Monrovia after a home invasion in Monocacy Park area. The burglars tied the victim and stole about 195 dollars and two guns. A car crash on Ball Road led to identification. one gun recovered. charges pending.
Frederick County officials announced an extended deadline for Junior Miss contest entries to Monday. Entries are available at local high school principals offices. The Coca Cola Bottling Company Junior Chamber of Commerce and Haber's of the Frederick Shopping Center sponsor the event with Miss Misti Green from Carroll County to crown the local winner. An informal Coke party for contestants and judges will be held Tuesday at Haber's at 8 p.m.
In Silver Spring Maryland, 19 year old Robert F Garbrick of Takoma Park died after a high speed crash in the business district. Police say a tire blowout at about 2 am sent his car across the roadway, overturning and bursting into flames. Passenger Carl Boetcher, also 19, was thrown through the windshield and hospitalized with a broken shoulder.
Ray Goddard of Sykesville Carroll County received a $1000 incentive award from the U S Army for saving the government about $200000 a year. He found an 1871 law granting subpoena power for reluctant witnesses, aiding the Corps of Engineers Baltimore District in disputes with contractors.
Louis L. Goldstein 25 year veteran and Maryland state comptroller since 1958 is poised to announce a U S Senate candidacy. Supported by Governor Tawes and his political machine, Goldstein may later eye the governorship if he defeats a Republican foe.
The Soviet Union expelled Yale professor Frederick C. Barghoorn on espionage charges. Barghoorn boarded a British airliner to London minutes after Foreign Minister Gromyko notified the U S Embassy that Barghoorn was being released because of President Kennedy's personal concern. American officials learned of the departure by accident as Russian plainclothesmen accompanied him at the airport.
