Youth Hurt As Hunting Season Opens
A 16 year old from Thurmont shot himself in the right leg during the opening of the rabbit hunting season near Catoctin Furnace. Paul Kenneth Carty was rushed to Frederick Memorial Hospital after the accident at about 11 15 this morning. He sustained a serious wound and lost blood before a companion carried him to Thurmont and State Trooper Kenneth Bond transported him to the hospital. The shotgun had allegedly discharged twice earlier in the day and a third time caused the injury. No other accidents were reported by noon. Authorities noted fewer hunters and fewer rabbits this year. The State Department of Health urged caution with wild rabbits and three safety tips were issued.
