Frederick Officials Unveil Plan To Save Water Resources

City leaders in Frederick announce a five year voluntary conservation program and 15 million dollars in water system upgrades to cope with shortages. A recent drought prompted bans on car washing and lawn watering though rainfall offered limited relief. Mayor Ronald Young warns growth will outpace supply and urges residents to participate. The plan includes installing water saving devices in 10 000 homes while 6 000 newer homes are already equipped, with work on 2 200 homes starting next year. The consultant report totals 15 million for system improvements to support projected population growth by 2015, prioritizing 7.5 million in upgrades by 1991 while not raising rates.
