Damascus couple Captain and Mrs Roddis hosted Fredericks Assembly dances in the Francis Scott Key Hotel ballroom. Their daughter Lee is in the Junior Assembly and son Kerth in the Sewer Assembly.
Three Latin American themed films will be shown at Hood College in Hudson Science Hall. Shows are Saturday at 11 am and Monday at 4:30 pm. The color documentaries, announced by Mr and Mrs Robert Coates, portray life and geography in Guatemala Peru and Colombia. Open to the public.
Mount Airy announces the engagement of Alma Jean Leatherwood to Harold James Taylor both seniors at Western Maryland College. Alma is Sigma Sigma Tau and Harold is Alpha Gamma Tau. A June wedding is planned in Virginia. Also noted is Judge C W Gregory returning to Richmond with sisters Handley and Hardaway, and Donald Lawson observing his ninth birthday today.
Hood faculty and invited guests attended the opening night in the remodeled Speech Studio Theater at Brodbeck Hall. The Marionettes and Homi College presented Fry comedies Foe Boy With A Cart and A Phoenix Too Frequent, with the next performances slated for tonight and Saturday. The setting allowed close audience interaction as Elizabeth Dolbey led a cast including Charles Rhoades Walter Kirk and Albert Negvesky. A buffet dinner followed the lecture and discussion led by Dr David Danskin of Johns Hopkins.
October visitation at Harpers Ferry National Monument rose 101 percent to 35 880 from 17 790 last year. Visitors came from 43 states and 18 countries, with Sunday totals peaking at 2 263 at the Visitor Center. By month end 251 890 had visited in 1958, fueling optimism for a 500 000 annual target in 1959.

Lieutenant W W Corbin commander of the State Police Barracks at Waterloo will be guest speaker at the Tuesday evening dinner meeting of the Frederick and Hagerstown Business and Professional Women at the Francis Scott Key Hotel. The joint meeting will include safety and health committee details and will feature a bazaar.
