Easy-care nuclear reactor aims for shelves but stalls
Los Alamos built a factory-assembled 20 kilowatt reactor for the Air Force to power Arctic DEW line stations, promising no on-site construction or human attendance. After four years and 6 million dollars, Canada’s maintenance plan and high diesel costs dampen interest, leaving the project on hold. Commercial potential exists in modular 100 megawatt units for future plants.
