Food Bank in Frederick Faces Shortfall for Holidays
Frederick area food bank volunteers warn the Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets may be scarce as monthly food costs run 2000 to 3000 dollars and donations are insufficient to cover the roughly 8000 dollars needed in the next two months. Baskets run about 25 dollars and each includes turkey and sides. more than 400 baskets were given at Thanksgiving last year.

Frederick woman killed in US 40 crash near Kehne Road
Susan Kay Smuth, 36, of Broadway Avenue Frederick, died late Sunday when her 1994 Oldsmobile Firenza left eastbound US 40 about 0.4 miles west of Kehne Road, crossed into the westbound lane, veered into a wooded area and struck a tree head on, according to Maryland State Police Trooper Jeffrey Alexander.

Threats followed sexual abuse at Maryland Army training center
Army records reveal Staff Sgt. Delmar Simpson, a drill instructor, threatened to kill three female trainees if they disclosed sex with him while raping three recruits.
