Prisoner sets cell ablaze in Newark jail panic
Michael NeDermeh, jailed for drunkenness, burned himself to death in a padded county jail cell. The blaze and burning flesh caused a frenzy among about 100 inmates as guards fought to subdue the chaos. Medical help was needed for several inmates injured in frantic attempts to escape. Extra police and guards were summoned as alarms rang throughout the jail.
