Captain Gabrielsen and nine crew members of the schooner Linnell endured 48 hours lashed to a mast stump and three days without drinking water after their vessel, the Jobo W Linnell, wrecked in a gale near Fernandina. Leaking hull, broken boats, and scarce fresh water worsened their ordeal until rescue by the Italian ship Gabrielle d'Ati Notwithstanding privation, no serious injuries were reported after transfer aboard the Gabrielle d'Ati.
