Frederick woman Starck died of injuries after a 9 20 p m collision at Park Mills Road and Md 255 near Urbana. Police say her Chevette failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a pickup driven by Michael Horton 18 of Blair Way Frederick. The truck struck the Chevette crumpling its front left and turning it onto Md 355. The truck driver was uninjured.

Teacher fined on drug charge in Maryland court
Darrell Edward Anderson a longtime Montgomery County teacher was fined 8000 and given a suspended prison term after pleading guilty to possession of cocaine and conspiracy to maintain a residence where cocaine is stored. He must perform 1000 hours of community service and faces a three year probation. Major felony charges were dismissed as part of the plea.

Federal Reserve cuts discount rate to 4.5 percent
The Federal Reserve Board lowered its key bank lending rate from 5.0 to 4.5 percent, the lowest in 18 years and the fifth cut since December aimed at steering the economy out of recession.
