Bombers Crash Near Abilene After Takeoff
An Air Force bomber carrying a nuclear weapon crashed near Abilene Texas during takeoff from Dyess Air Force Base. One crew member, Staff Sgt. Robert E. Schneider, was killed. Maj. Don Youngmark, Capt. John Gerding, and Capt. John Dowling parachuted to safety.
