Gray tops county race as Gardner edges Reeder for seat

In Tuesday’s county commissioner election David Gray won the top spot with 12.9 percent, while Democrat Jan Gardner narrowly outpolled incumbent Bruce Reeder for the sole second seat. Rhoderick Hogan and Thompson held steady, with Gardner securing the final board position by a slim margin amid 1,480 absentee ballots pending.

Glendening Secures Large Victory Across Maryland

Governor-elect Parris Glendening won a sweeping Maryland victory over Ellen Sauerbrey with 826,609 votes to 662,554, carrying Baltimore and most counties. The race, costly and negative, defied poll expectations as turnout matched 1994 levels while a surge in Black voter participation widened the margin.

Frederick County to elect school board after referendum

Voters approved a four year transition to elected members replacing governor appointments. In 2000 three of seven board seats will be elected nonpartisan, with the remaining four in 2002. Absentee votes showed 37,012 for and 11,165 against.

Bartlett Mikulski win new terms in evening of surprises

Incumbents held steady in key races as U S Representative Rescue Bartlett R 6th and U S Senator Barbara Mikulski D Md won reelection. Bartlett led Frederick County with 61.16 percent and district wide about 63 percent, while Mikulski captured 57.13 percent in Frederick County and 68 percent statewide. Pierpont trailed with 42.78 percent locally and 32 percent statewide.

Democrat Sue Hecht narrowly trails Louise Snodgrass and Joseph Bartlett as three delegates are chosen and Ferguson defeats Littrell to keep his senate seat. Hecht, the only Democrat, faces GOP criticism over debt and stadium votes while Bartlett, son of Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, secures a seat amid a recount scare and Castle finishes just shy of victory.

Teens charged in theft at Emmitsburg Ambulance Co

Frederick County deputies charged an 18 year old with lying to police after he confessed to stealing 2600 dollars from the Emmitsburg Ambulance Co and later withdrew the confession. A 17 year old was charged with theft for taking candy from the vending machine. No one has been charged in the bingo profits theft from a locked cabinet.
