Fatal head on collision on U.S. 15 near Thurmont
A Pennsylvania man was killed and a Taneytown couple injured in a head on crash on U S 15 about two and a half miles north of Thurmont at 10 40 p m Sunday. Clyde C Mumpower 27 of New Oxford Pa died of internal injuries. Joseph E Fitzgerald 42 and Charlotte Y Fitzgerald 37 of Taneytown were taken to Annie Warner Hospital in Gettysburg Pa in satisfactory condition.

Glider crash kills Frederick teacher Ruth Butler
A 32 year old school teacher Ruth Ann Butler of Middletown Elementary School died in a glider crash near Frederick Municipal Airport. Witnesses reported the Glasfinger glider descended with a wing failure from 2500 to 1500 feet before impact. FAA DOT officials and Civil Air Patrol assisted, autopsy ordered, funeral plans pending.
