Latecomers Protest New Policy At Metropolitan Opera
About 30 late arrivals were refused seating for the complete performance of Strauss Elektra at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York. The policy bars late seating until intermission, eight minutes after curtain, prompting protests from the blocked audience while Met officials defend the rule. Nepalese King Mahendra and Queen Ratna attended with France’s Charles de Gaulle and Georges Pompidou in the guest list, and flowers were presented to the queen and her hostess by young dancers.
