Three-Step Plan Ordered to Fix Emmitsburg Death Trap
State Roads Commission chairman John B. Funk ordered a three part program to improve safety at the Route 97 Route 15 intersection in Emmitsburg. The plan includes a rumble surface every 500 yards for a quarter mile approaching Route 15, an overhead yellow blinking light a quarter mile from the intersection, and an engineering study on possibly dualizing the road. Funk, with Col. Carey Jarman and Lt. Col. George E. Davidson, said the goal is slower speeds and clearer stop sign awareness on the eastern side of Route 97. Construction to begin next Monday, with dualization timing pending surveys.
