Best Time To Topdress Alfalfa Fertilizer Says Fall Or Spring
Agronomists at University of Maryland advise that alfalfa stands sustain maximum yields with adequate yearly plant food, best achieved by fall or spring applications. Nine years of data show no yield difference between seasons if fertility is sufficient. 4 to 5 tons per acre annual yield persists with proper fertilization. For soils lacking tests, 500 to 600 pounds of 0-15-30 fertilizer per acre is suggested, plus boron as needed.
