Hero shields crowd as concrete slab falls at West Chester school
At a West Chester high school in Chester County a granolithic landing collapsed as teachers and directors left a gathering. A hero held a slab on his back to prevent it from crushing others. About 30 people were seriously injured, with many admitted to local hospitals for broken bones and cuts. The 1926 built school cost $80,000 and stands at the center of a rescue scene. Names and ages of injured include Mildred Kesigr, 22, and Blan Bond, 12, among others. several teachers from West Chester and nearby towns were affected.

In Ponstown Pennsylvania on November 4 a fourteen year old Lancaster boy Eugene Herst was killed when his gun discharged as he climbed a fence on George B Amuole’s farm near Glenmoore. The weapon’s barrel rested on the fence rail and discharged as he bent to pick up a can, burning his clothing and fatally wounding him. He was with his uncle Howard Ford at the time.
