Volunteers repair Reddy Road bridge in Thurmont

About 25 volunteers worked from dawn until dark Saturday and again Sunday to repair the Reddy Road covered bridge. They replaced a corner post, three cross beams, knee braces and gable ends damaged by an oversized truck last March. County inspectors declared the bridge passable Sunday afternoon after using backhoes, a hoist, and wooden pegs to reassemble the walls. Organizers praised volunteers for completing a task Frederick County could not have finished quickly.

No cake walk forecast marks 6th District race

Absence of Beverly Byron makes the 6th District contest between Democrat Thomas Hattery and Republican Roscoe Bartlett a tough, negative campaign. They trade barbs over policy and record, with Bartlett attacking Hattery as too liberal and Hattery branding Bartlett as ultra conservative and hypocritical. The race tilts toward a hard fought battle rather than a smooth incumbent’s reelection.
