New York doctors report experiments using 500 watt incandescent light focused by parabolic reflectors to relieve pain. Patients endure 15 to 20 minute sessions at intervals. pain often diminishes for hours. Physicians cannot explain the mechanism, but trials show promising relief in general medical and surgical settings. A self trial reportedly suppressed a toothache for hours.
London reports a potential general strike by 100000 railway workers over union recognition. Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants leaders warn of paralysis to travel, commerce, and industry if demands are not met, with Lord Claud Hamilton opposing concessions and David Lloyd George seeking a settlement. His condition is as good as could be expected and no serious results are feared. Dynamite in Trunk Exploded Pittspate ex. 2 A panic among bathers union station area narrowly averted when a dynamite explosion occurred in the baggage room under the waiting room. A quantity of dynamite packed in a checked trunk was set off, presumably by a person handling the trunk. James Lyons and David Chappelle were seriously but not fatally injured. Charles Flatch has been arrested.
Buffalo police headquarters were largely destroyed by a fire that started in a lavatory and swept the upper floors. Three prisoners were rescued, but crucial records including the original copy of Leon Czolgosz's confession were destroyed. Eight firemen were injured. none fatally.
In Harkettstown Illinois a woman aged 52 from Brook reportedly fractured her ankle after a runaway incident. She was taken to the home of John J ears where an old friend named TmRamiare was reportedly involved.
New York reports a $559,000 verdict against Joseph Ramsey Jr former president of the Wabash rail trio in a suit by John S Jones a financier and land operator. Jones claimed $460,009 owed for securing 50 000 acres of coal lands in southern Ohio with added commissions expenses and interest. The court held George Gould and William Guy not liable leaving Ramsey as the sole defendant. The judgment covers the Bull and costs and interest since 1902.
In Battle Creek on November 2 Mrs Mary Church Terrell, head of the National Association of Colored Women, railed against Southern whites saying no servant girl is safe in white homes and no mother should allow her daughter to work as a servant without references. She claimed Southern states plot to deny Black children education and noted courts fail to protect colored women. Terrell condemned Southern women as lacking honor and urged wealthy men to support an educated Negro workforce.
In Fox Lake Jarvis Willett 69 died of heart failure after discovering Halloween merrymakers took his wagon. In Brookville David Bish is jailed for fatally shooting Newton Reddinger 17 during a Halloween crowd incident. In New Haven nine year old Catl Appel died after a pipe used as a bean shooter struck his throat.
A law introduced in Congress would reimburse the heirs of General George Washington for 1051 acres of land in Hamilton and Clermont counties Ohio, valued at about 305100 dollars. The land was tied to Continental warrants located by Major John C. Bannon and later patented after various transfers. Colonel Robert B. Lee was named administrator of the estate and the case traces Washingtons executors, the heirs, and prior patent actions dating to 1807 1808. The heirs reside in Lexington Va Jefferson County W Va and other places with descendants of Martha Washington and Parke Custis noted.
